Situated on the River Test, Houghton Lodge is one of the finest examples of Cottage Orné in Britain.
We worked with the owners and their gardening staff for a number of years advising on garden management, restoration and planting design.
Projects have included the improvement and replanting of the ‘Peacock Topiary Garden’, revival of the herbaceous borders, new formal planting schemes at the front of the house and new planting schemes within the magnificent chalk cob-walled garden.
Under the new custodians the gardens are undergoing an increased programme of restoration and enhancement which is exciting to see.
The gardens and house are well worth a visit. The gardens are open to the public from Spring – Autumn and it is now possible to stay in the old barns beside the walled garden.
